State of Michigan endorses PALM

The Governor's Council for Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports has made PALM an endorsed event and added it to its website. One of PALM's missions for its 25 years of existence has been the promotion of bicycling as part of a life of physical fitness. We encourage the participation of all ages in our event, not just the 20 year olds. In fact the 20-29 and 30-39 age ranges have traditionally been our smallest. We've kept the daily distances to a level that can be reached by almost everyone in a reasonable amount of time. We teach safety and encourage more use of bicycles in everyday life. That's why it is very gratifying to get this recognition.

Perhaps now that this pesky election is over with we can get the First Gentleman and a son or daughter on the ride. It's not the marathon, but you can share PALM with your whole family.

Maybe we can finally get the governor to show up for at least one day of the tour? I know we've tried before but with no luck.

Kevin Deegan 2012 Memorial Ride
(25 riders, 2500 miles in 25 days)
San Diego,to Michigan. Proceeds go to Make a Wish

I met Kevin at the 2006 Make a Wish Ride,(300 miles, 3 day Traverse City to Chelsea). Kevin was on the road at first light, as he often was, because he hated to be sagged.

I caught up to Kevin at mile 26 going up one of the steepest hills in the Traverse City area. That moment will be burned into memory forever. Kevin with his one arm and leg was advancing 3 feet up the hill, then sliding backwards 1 foot. My God I thought, how can this guy do this and ride 100 miles a day.

Kevin inspired everyone who knew him. I became good friends with Kevin and I will miss him greatly. I can be reached at mbob451937@aol.com for more information.
