Ok, it's only a week before PALM check-in. Are you ready? You still have time to get a few rides in before PALM. As I've often said, it's more about saddle time that fitness when it comes to multi-day rides.
Is your bike ready? You still can get your bike into the shop or service it yourself prior to leaving for PALM. Don't wait for PALM and have to wait in line at the PALM bike shops for service. Make sure you have a proper tube, tire levers, pump, and multi tool in your seat pack so you can take care of minor issues on the road.
See you next Saturday at the PALM check-in.

What is the PALM emergency contact number if someone needs to contact me during PALM?
For the past two years, we have checked the emergency number twice each day without getting even one message. It seems that most riders have cell phone access. Therefore we decided not to pay for the number this year. I will put a message on the regular PALM answering machine that in case of true emergency, they can call me (Ellie) on my cell phone.
Although I commend you all for your physical effort, family bonding time and so on, I will say that as a person (in a car on the way to work) it is difficult to be joyful about your activity for an extended period of time. You do not post your event along the road so that drivers are aware that an alternative route may be advised. There is no indication of just how many of you there are. Also, many of you follow road rules, but many do not. I believe I should share the road with you, but you need to stay single file and to the right. I travel most of your route today from Hesperia to Baldwin. I would have gone a different way had I been forwarned. Better planning and more road courtesy next year guys. Signed:
Seriously late for work.
We are sorry that you were inconvenienced by our PALM ride. We do contact all newspapers, chambers of commerce, police agencies, stores, and businesses along our route, so hopefully many of the local residents will learn about our ride. We do put out "bike tour ahead" signs when we will be in very congested areas. However, we are run totally by volunteers and the riders spread out over a 50 mile range, so it is difficult to put signs up on all roads. Also, when we have put the signs up in rural areas, on some occasions, they have actually been taken down and/or stolen. We try very hard to educate our riders about the laws regarding cycling and the proper etiquette when biking with cars nearby. While it is legal in Michigan to ride two abreast, we emphasize that bicyclists should ride single file when cars are behind or when going up hills. Most times, when one riders yells "car back," the riders will fall into a single file. We are aware that not all of our participants ride responsibly, and we do our best to get all of the riders to follow these rules. Thank you for allowing us the share the road with us for the day that we were riding in your area.
